Hanqing Jiang is a Fellow of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the recipient of the ASME Daniel C. Drucker Medal, the ASME Worcester Reed Warner Medal, the SES Engineering Science Medal, and the 2009 recipient of National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award.
He received bachelor degree in engineering mechanics from Dalian University of Technology in 1996, and doctoral degree in solid mechanics from Tsinghua University in 2001. He was a postdoctoral research associate in the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2001 to 2006.
